Toufiq Hasan Alhaj, the Convener of Suzangor Upazila BNP, expressed his sorrow over the expulsion of Sheikh Abdur Rouf, especially considering his serious injuries.

Background of the Incident

The violence unfolded on Tuesday (July 8), when Sheikh Abdur Rouf’s nephew, Kausar, and his followers forcibly took and destroyed the mobile phone of Ashik, a supporter of former joint general secretary of Suzangor BNP, Majibur Kha. Although the matter was temporarily resolved, the conflict reignited on Wednesday (July 9) when Kausar and his group confronted Ashik again near the cinema hall.

During this second confrontation, Ashik was accompanied by his cousin, Chhatra Dal leader Shobuj. A heated argument broke out between Ashik and Kausar, escalating into a physical altercation. When Shobuj attempted to intervene, he was assaulted and stabbed. The victims reported the incident to their guardians and senior BNP leaders.

Majibur Kha, Lebu Kha, Manik, Suruj, and several others then organized an attack on Kausar’s group. When Abdur Rouf arrived at the scene to mediate, he too was attacked, stabbed, and severely beaten. A gunfight also broke out during the incident. Rouf was later rushed to Dhaka Medical College in a critical condition.

This violent clash has now resulted in the expulsion of key BNP leaders from their positions. Further legal actions are expected depending on the complaints filed.
