Jhalokathi, July 13 (V7N) — Dr. Faizul Haque, a former leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), officially resigned from the party on Saturday. In a written statement, he also declared his intention to contest the upcoming election as an independent candidate from the Jhalokathi-1 constituency, which includes Rajapur and Kathalia areas.

In his resignation statement, Dr. Haque expressed his longstanding desire to engage in independent, value-based, and principled politics. However, he lamented that the current BNP leadership is increasingly adopting left-leaning ideologies, which he claims has led to the party expressing hostile sentiments against Islamist groups — aligning BNP’s stance more closely with that of the ruling Awami League.

Dr. Faizul recalled his past roles within the BNP, including serving as Co-Secretary for Social Welfare in the party’s Malaysia committee in 2015. He also revealed that he was an aspirant for BNP nominations in the Jhalokathi-1 and Jhalokathi-2 constituencies ahead of the 2018 general elections.

He firmly stated, “I do not support killing people with stones, terrorism, or extortion. I want to practice politics with the courage to speak the truth as truth and falsehood as falsehood. I will remain steadfast in this principle until my last breath.”

Paying tribute to national leaders, he honored the memories of the late President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, and BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman, saying, “I will always remember their contributions with deep respect.”

Dr. Faizul Haque announced that he will now enter the political arena as an independent-minded patriot, no longer representing any party affiliation, and sought prayers and support from the public.
