Dhaka, Oct 12 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has stated that the actions of a few individuals should not be attributed to any institution, underscoring the importance of justice and accountability in protecting democracy and human rights.

In a statement issued on Saturday night by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the BNP emphasized that ensuring fair and impartial justice for crimes committed against humanity is essential not only to punish past wrongdoings but also to prevent future abuses.

The statement noted that the rule of law must prevail above all else, saying that no institution should bear the burden of crimes committed by a handful of individuals. “The responsibility for any wrongdoing, especially serious crimes, lies solely with the person involved,” it said.

The BNP further mentioned that during what it described as a period of fascist rule, the party suffered the most from enforced disappearances, killings, and oppression. Despite this, the BNP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting justice for all human rights violations, stressing that punishment should be based on individual crimes rather than institutional affiliation.

According to the statement, the respect and trust the people hold for the nation’s armed forces should not be undermined by the isolated misdeeds of a few. “Every member of the army is a proud son of this soil, and most of them genuinely wish to see that those who crossed the line face justice. This would ensure that no government in the future dares to use the army for unlawful acts such as enforced disappearances or extrajudicial killings,” the BNP said.

The party concluded by expressing its full agreement with this shared aspiration for justice, accountability, and respect for the rule of law — essential pillars for a peaceful and responsible state.
