Dhaka, Oct 13 (V7N) — Hefazat-e-Islam has announced that it will not form any alliances or compromise on seat sharing in the upcoming national elections. The declaration came from the organization’s Joint Secretary General, Mamunul Haque, at a press conference held on Monday (October 13).
Addressing reporters, Mamunul Haque said that the recent comments by Hefazat Amir regarding Jamaat-e-Islami were his personal opinion, not the stance of the organization. “Hefazat-e-Islam is a completely apolitical organization. Therefore, we will not compromise on any alliance or seat in the elections,” he stated.
When questioned about the group’s position on the recent attacks on shrines, Hefazat leaders said that such incidents were “undesirable” and that the organization does not support them in any way.
In a written statement, the group alleged that some individuals were misusing religion as a means to seek asylum abroad, and demanded stricter laws to prevent anyone from exploiting religion for personal gain. Hefazat also demanded the cancellation of the current rules for appointing music teachers in educational institutions.
Additionally, the organization renewed its demand to declare May 5 as “Shapla Genocide Day,” warning that it would launch a strict movement if the demand is not met.
