Dhaka, Dec 07 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s medical condition has shown slight improvement, but she is not yet fit for long-distance air travel. Her potential trip to London for advanced treatment now entirely depends on her health, according to her medical board.

A medical board member stated that Khaleda Zia’s condition has stabilized and improved compared to previous days. She is currently under daily medication, including sleep aids, and occasionally attempts to communicate. Several medical tests were conducted on Saturday, with the board meeting later to determine the next steps based on the results. Her daughter-in-law, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, has been visiting twice daily, coordinating closely with the board.

Khaleda Zia’s younger brother, Shamim Eskander, confirmed that he remains at the hospital, and her personal physician, Dr. AJM Zahid Hossain, is closely monitoring her condition in the ICU.

BNP advisor Dr. Enamul Haque Chowdhury said that once the medical board gives approval, Qatar has agreed to provide an air ambulance immediately. A previously scheduled air ambulance could not arrive due to mechanical issues. Dr. Chowdhury emphasized that the decision for her travel prioritizes her current health status above all.

Dr. Zahid Hossain explained that her long-duration air travel poses health risks due to altitude and pressure changes, making careful assessment critical. He stated that her health and safety remain the highest priority, with BNP acting according to the medical board’s guidance.

Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital since November 23 under a specialist medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder. The board includes Dr. Zubaida Rahman, who returned from London on Friday to personally oversee her mother-in-law’s care. BNP media cell member Atikur Rahman Ruman confirmed that Dr. Rahman visited Evercare Hospital after 3:15 PM from her residence in Dhanmondi and is actively monitoring Khaleda Zia’s condition.

Her London visit will proceed only after the board confirms her fitness for long-distance air travel, ensuring her health remains the top priority.
