Dhaka, Dec 08 (V7N) — BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has alleged that the country’s law and order, judiciary, and administrative structure were destroyed during the tenure of the previous government, adding that the future of the next generation has also been jeopardized as a result.

He made the remarks in a video message delivered at a meeting of Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal on Monday.

Tarique Rahman said the previous government used state institutions for political interests to remain in power, leading to overall destruction of governance. To overcome this situation, BNP has introduced a program titled ‘State-Building Plan’.

He said no political party is flawless and mistakes can occur, but whenever the people entrusted BNP with governing the country, the party tried to work for national welfare.

Referring to the tenure of late President Ziaur Rahman, he highlighted the canal excavation project, which faced criticism at the time but proved effective in flood control and irrigation, enabling farmers to grow two crops instead of one. As a result, Bangladesh moved from famine to self-sufficiency in food production, with some surplus for export.

Tarique Rahman said BNP would resume canal excavation projects if it returns to power in the next national election.

Speaking on expatriate workers, he said about 1.5 crore Bangladeshis, particularly in the Middle East, are contributing significantly through remittances. He noted that overseas manpower export was initiated during Ziaur Rahman’s rule and said BNP plans to provide skills training to migrant workers to enhance their earnings.

He said unskilled workers earning around $100 monthly could earn $300 or more through language and vocational training, which would significantly increase foreign remittance inflow.

Addressing freelancing, content creation, and digital income, Tarique Rahman said BNP has already held discussions with PayPal and other international financial platforms. He added that by formulating state policies and bringing companies like PayPal, Google, and Meta to Bangladesh, the income of young digital creators would increase substantially.

He also stressed the importance of tree plantation to combat air pollution, integrated waste management, and improving the education sector by enhancing the skills of primary school teachers through proper training.

Tarique Rahman said BNP aims to build a sustainable, skilled, and inclusive Bangladesh if given the opportunity to govern again.
