Savar, Dec 16 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas on Monday alleged that the Awami League has shattered the hopes and aspirations with which Bangladesh achieved independence.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after paying tribute to the martyrs at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar on the occasion of the Great Victory Day.

Mirza Abbas said the BNP expects a free, fair and credible election to be held in order to restore peace, democracy and stability in the country.

Addressing Jamaat-e-Islami, he alleged that the party opposed independence in both 1947 and 1971 and claimed that it still does not support the country’s independence.

Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moin Khan said that even after 53 years of victory, the people of Bangladesh are still striving for true independence.

General Secretary of the People’s Rights Council, Rashed Khan, also spoke to the media, alleging that the Awami League had undermined the spirit of the Liberation War through what he termed “night-time voting.” He said this had led to the mass uprising of 2024.

Calling for unity among political parties, Rashed Khan urged collective resistance against what he described as conspiracies, alleging that the Awami League was planning violence against election candidates.
