Laxmipur, Dec 23 (V7N) — Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has called on authorities to identify and arrest the perpetrators responsible for recent violent incidents across the country. He made the remarks during a visit to the burned home of BNP leader Belal Hossain in Char Monsa village, Bhavaniganj, Kachalia Upazila, Laxmipur, on Sunday night.

Rizvi criticized the police for inaction, stating that their failure to act allows criminals to operate with impunity, plunging society into darkness. He linked the recent arson attack in Laxmipur, the shooting of a BNP leader in Chattogram, and the killing of Osman Hadi as connected events, suggesting that influential individuals or political actors might be behind the violence to disrupt the electoral process.

He further accused the banned Awami League of attempting to create instability nationwide, claiming that conspiracies regarding the upcoming elections are being plotted both domestically and internationally. Rizvi urged all citizens to remain united in the face of these threats.

Earlier, Rizvi visited Laxmipur Sadar Hospital to see the injured BNP leader Belal Hossain. On behalf of the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, he presented Belal with cash assistance. Joint Secretary and district BNP convener Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Ani assured support for medical treatment and house reconstruction for the victim.

According to reports, the attack occurred late Friday night around 2:00 am. After having dinner, Belal Hossain, his wife, and children went to sleep when assailants locked the house from outside, poured petrol, and set it on fire. Tragically, Belal’s sleeping daughter, Ayesha Begum, died at the scene. Two other daughters, Salma Akter and Samia Akter Beeth, were severely burned and transported to the Burn Unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Local sources expressed outrage at the attack, highlighting the urgent need for effective law enforcement to ensure the safety of political activists and maintain public order ahead of the upcoming elections.
