Dhaka, Jan 25 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has warned that any attempt to interfere with ballot boxes in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election on February 12 will be firmly resisted.

He made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Dhupkhola ground in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said Jamaat does not seek power to loot the country, but aims for the victory of the people.

“We do not want Jamaat’s victory alone; we want the victory of 180 million people. Bangladesh will win only if the ‘Yes’ vote wins in the referendum,” he said.

Calling for unity, the Jamaat Ameer said the party no longer wants divisions among citizens.

“Our identity is ‘We are Bangladesh’. There will be no discrimination,” he added.

He also warned against foreign interference, saying that meddling in Bangladesh’s internal affairs will not be tolerated.

Without naming any political party, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman alleged that a party claiming it would eliminate corruption if elected has 39 candidates who are serious loan defaulters.

Earlier in the day, while addressing another rally in Jatrabari, the Jamaat Ameer reiterated his pledge to provide employment instead of unemployment allowances to youth, aiming to develop them into skilled workers.

He also said that if Jamaat comes to power and fails to resolve waterlogging, mayors and councilors will be held accountable, emphasizing strict responsibility in public office.
