Dhaka, Jan 26 (V7N) — Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Election Management Committee spokesperson Mahdi Amin on Monday expressed serious concern over the possibility of election fraud, alleging that a political party may be collecting voters’ personal information to cast fake votes.
Speaking at a press conference held at the BNP Central Election Management Office in Gulshan on Monday morning, Mahdi Amin urged the Election Commission to take immediate action to stop what he described as illegal activities and prevent the misuse of National Identity (NID) information.
He further alleged that religious sentiments are being deliberately misused in the election campaign of a party. Such attempts to secure votes by misinterpreting religion are severely damaging the fair and neutral environment of the election, he said. According to existing laws, these activities are dishonest and politically motivated, Mahdi Amin added.
During the press conference, the BNP spokesperson also demanded that members of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) be assigned duties outside their respective police station jurisdictions to ensure neutrality during the electoral process.
Meanwhile, BNP Media Cell Convener Dr. Moudud Alamgir Pavel stated that the BNP does not support any form of clashes or violence ahead of the election and remains committed to maintaining a peaceful electoral environment.
