As the nation prepares to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, concerns over the increasing prices of essential commodities have dampened the spirits of many Bangladeshis, leading to a sense of discontent among the populace. Addressing reporters after offering respects and prayers at the grave of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman in the Sherbangla area of the capital, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir lamented that this Eid carries a somber tone for the people of Bangladesh.

Expressing the hardships faced by the common people, Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the challenges posed by the rising cost of living, which has made it difficult for many to afford basic necessities, including clothing and food. He emphasized that the current economic climate has placed significant strain on the citizens, contributing to their unhappiness.

Mirza Fakhrul criticized the government's policies, asserting that despite its purported goal of achieving self-reliance for Bangladesh, the implementation of such plans has had adverse effects, exemplified by recent events at Pilkhana and the overall deterioration of the economy. He accused the government of pursuing authoritarian tactics and vowed that the people would rise up against what he termed a "fascist government."

Furthermore, Mirza Fakhrul criticized the ruling Awami League, alleging that it has devolved into a partisan entity devoid of its former ideals and principles.

As the nation grapples with economic challenges and political unrest, Mirza Fakhrul's remarks underscore the prevailing sense of disillusionment and frustration among the populace, highlighting the urgent need for effective measures to address the concerns of the people and restore stability and prosperity to Bangladesh.
