In a gesture of solidarity and camaraderie, top leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) exchanged warm Eid greetings with their incarcerated chairperson, Khaleda Zia. Led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, a delegation visited Khaleda Zia's residence at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, to convey their heartfelt wishes for the festive occasion.
Following the visit, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir shared that Khaleda Zia had extended her Eid greetings to the people of the country, despite being imprisoned for political reasons. Expressing deep concern for her continued detention, he called for the release of the party's revered chairperson and urged the nation to keep her in their prayers.
Among the esteemed leaders who met with Khaleda Zia were members of the Standing Committee, including Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Nazrul Islam Khan, and Begum Selima Rahman. Emphasizing the tradition of visiting Khaleda Zia on Eid, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reiterated the party's unwavering support for their leader during these challenging times.
In a separate meeting, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president retired Colonel Oli Ahmad expressed his dismay at the government's treatment of Khaleda Zia, describing it as inhumane. He underscored the urgent need for Khaleda Zia's liver transplant and lamented the current state of affairs, noting that she had not envisaged such hardships for the nation during her tenure.
As Khaleda Zia continues to remain behind bars, her party colleagues and supporters reaffirm their commitment to her cause and call for her swift release, underscoring the enduring bond between the leader and her loyal followers, even in the face of adversity.
