Senior leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Nazrul Islam Khan, stated on Tuesday December 26 that the people had no desire to participate in the "meaningless" election scheduled for January 7.

In addition, he asked whether the public supported the "one-sided" election and why the police had instructed the council members to accompany voters to the polls.

Speaking with reporters as he distributed pamphlets to passersby on the Motijheel to Dilkusha Road with the BNP's appeal to boycott the next elections, Nazrul stated, "People are not interested in voting since they realize it's a useless election... It's neither an election nor a vote."

He urged electors to abstain from voting in all circumstances on January 7. "Refuse to assist the regime, which is manipulating people's lives and means of subsistence."
BNP standing committee member Nazrul said why the purpose of the sham candidates is to draw voters to the polls. "Why are those who benefit from various government programs and services being blackmailed with having their cards cancelled if they don't cast their ballots? Why did you direct the council members to transport people to the polling places using police?

According to him, the electorate has already rejected the unfair election and plans to abstain from voting altogether.
