On Friday, the Bangladesh Natinolsit Party (BNP) alleged that journalists from Prothom Alo and Independent TV falsely cited the party while questioning US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Donald Lu, regarding the US stance on Bangladesh’s last national election.

In a statement signed by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party asserted, “The question asked by Prothom Alo and Independent TV during interviews with Donald Lu, citing BNP, is entirely untrue, misleading, and baseless.”

The BNP claimed that such an "absurd" question was intended to humiliate the party. “The question stated—'An opposition party in Bangladesh, BNP, has alleged that the United States has softened its stance on the 12th National Parliamentary election influenced by India's mediation.' No leader of BNP at any level has ever made such a comment or speech anywhere,” the statement clarified.

The party expressed concern that publishing such a "fabricated" statement leads to significant misunderstandings. “Such an unrealistic question from journalists working in popular news media like Prothom Alo and Independent TV tarnishes the reputation of these institutions.”

Amid widespread discontent with the current government, the statement emphasized that BNP leaders and activists are risking their lives and enduring imprisonment, tyranny, and oppression to fight for the restoration of the people's rights in Bangladesh.

The BNP reiterated its commitment to protecting the country's independence and sovereignty and to establishing people's rights, freedom of expression, and justice.

“The misleading question that has been asked, citing BNP, is inappropriate. It creates confusion in the public mind. BNP protests against this false and fabricated statement by the two media outlets.”
