Dhaka, Aug 07 (V7N) – On Wednesday, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman urged party leaders and activists to act as a protective shield in their local communities to ensure the safety of all individuals, regardless of their caste or creed. His remarks were made during a virtual address to a large rally in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan Central office.
Tarique Rahman appealed to the administration to take firm measures to maintain law and order, asserting that there is a deliberate attempt to destabilize the country. He emphasized the urgency of organizing a national election to establish an elected government.
At the rally, Rahman stated, “I call upon the BNP leaders and activists, the largest political party in the country, to set an example by safeguarding your friends and neighbors, irrespective of their beliefs or identities—whether they are Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, or Christians.”
He also urged the public and all democratic political parties to resist the current state of anarchy, declaring, “We must not be defeated by the chaos created by conspirators.”
Rahman claimed that a plot is underway to destabilize the nation and undermine the democratic process. He requested the administration to ensure the safety of all individuals and to address any threats to security as a top priority.
The BNP leader encouraged people to report any instances of violence or criminal behavior, including those involving BNP members, to the authorities. “If someone violates the law, file a police complaint. No one should take the law into their own hands,” he said.
Rahman acknowledged that while the police are not the enemy, the current regime has forced them into opposition against the people. He criticized the ‘unelected’ Sheikh Hasina government for allegedly undermining the police and creating instability.
He congratulated the students and citizens for their role in challenging the autocratic regime and expressed hope that the nation will remember their contributions to the cause of freedom.
Emphasizing the need for a swift transfer of power to a government elected by the people, Rahman expressed confidence that unity among citizens could lead to a safer future for the nation’s youth.
The rally, held in Nayapaltan following the fall of the Awami League government on August 05, 2024, was the first major public demonstration organized by the BNP. It began around 2:40 p.m. with recitations from the holy Quran.
