Dhaka, Aug 28 (V7N) - Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, called for an end to the politics of hatred and division during a media briefing on Wednesday at a Dhaka hotel. Addressing editors and senior journalists, he stressed the need for national unity and harmony, asserting that Jamaat-e-Islami opposes any efforts to divide the nation.

Dr. Rahman described the recent ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Chhatra Shibir, imposed on August 1, as a calculated move to distract from anti-government protests. He suggested that the ban was intended to divert attention and create chaos, thereby undermining the momentum of the dissenting movement.

While asserting that his party holds no grudges and has forgiven all, Dr. Rahman emphasized the importance of accountability for those involved in specific crimes to prevent societal chaos. He criticized the practice of broad accusations, citing a recent case where 500 individuals were implicated, and called for more precise and fair legal actions to ensure justice.

On international relations, Dr. Rahman advocated for respectful and cooperative ties with neighboring countries, including India. He urged for assistance without coercion, emphasizing that decisions should be made by the Bangladeshi people.

Addressing media concerns, Dr. Rahman promised to uphold press freedom and ensure a fair working environment for journalists. The event was attended by senior Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including Nayeb-e-Ameers Prof. Mujibur Rahman and Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Secretary General Prof. Mia Golam Parwar, and Assistant Secretaries General Rafiqul Islam Khan and Hamidur Rahman Azad.
