Thakurgaon, Sep 18 (V7N): BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized the importance of protecting minority communities, asserting that their safety must be ensured, "even with our lives."

Speaking at a rally in Thakurgaon's Haripur upazila on Wednesday, Fakhrul urged everyone to ensure that Hindus can celebrate Durga Puja peacefully and festively. He referred to the teachings of the Holy Quran, reminding the audience that arrogance leads to downfall. “Those who ruled with arrogance are now seeking refuge in India. Those who once imprisoned us are now imprisoned themselves. This is a lesson that nothing happens without Allah's will," he added.

In a light-hearted comment, Fakhrul referenced Awami League leader Obaidul Quader's past remark about never fleeing. "Where is he now? Will he take refuge at my home?" he joked.

Fakhrul further criticized the ruling party, stating, "If we start acting like the Awami League, we will lose everything we've gained through our struggle." He warned that imitating the ruling party's behavior would undo all the progress achieved through the movement.

Fakhrul reiterated the importance of protecting the Hindu community, emphasizing that it is the responsibility of all to ensure their safety, especially during Durga Puja. He called on supporters to act like vigilant guards, ensuring the festivities proceed in a peaceful atmosphere.

He also requested prayers for Khaleda Zia's recovery and praised Tarique Zia for keeping the BNP united. Concluding his speech, Fakhrul expressed the desire for peaceful relations with India but stressed that the party would not hesitate to respond if necessary.
