Dhaka, Jan 01 (V7N) — Five individuals, including three children, sustained burns while setting off fireworks, crackers, and lanterns during New Year celebrations in the capital. They were treated at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The incidents occurred on Tuesday night in various areas of Dhaka. The injured have been identified as Farhan (8), Tafsir (3), Sifan Mallick (12), Sentu (45), and Samrat (20).

Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the institute, reported, "Four of the injured received first aid and were discharged. However, eight-year-old Farhan, who suffered burns on 15% of his body, has been admitted for further treatment."

Farhan’s family stated that the child was injured while attempting to extinguish a fire on Adabor Road No. 10 late at night.

Authorities have urged caution during festive celebrations involving fireworks to prevent such accidents in the future.
