Barguna, July 17 (V7N) — A five-year-old boy named Nabil tragically drowned in a pond in Patharghata Upazila of Barguna, just three hours after his mother shared an emotional Facebook post expressing her love and happiness for her son.
The heartbreaking incident occurred around 12:00 noon on Thursday (July 16) at the family pond in the Hazar Khal area under Sadar Union of the upazila.
Nabil was the son of Hasan Mia, a local resident. His mother, Fahima Rimu, works at Patharghata Medicare Diagnostic Centre. Due to her work responsibilities, Nabil often stayed with his maternal grandmother.
According to family members, Nabil had spoken normally with his mother just 20 minutes before the incident. When he could not be found for some time, relatives started searching for him.
Later, his cousin Bellal noticed Nabil’s shoes floating in the pond near the house. He immediately jumped into the water and rescued the child from beneath the pond steps.
Nabil was quickly taken to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
About three hours before the tragedy, Fahima Rimu posted an emotional message on her Facebook account about her son, writing: “I have no regrets about who loves my child and who does not. Because I alone am an entire world for my child. Alhamdulillah, my child's smile is my greatest happiness.”
After Nabil’s death, the post spread widely on social media, with many people expressing grief and offering condolences to the bereaved family.
Speaking in tears, Fahima said, “I loved my son very much. Now who will I live for? He spoke to me just 20 minutes ago. Now I feel like his words were somehow different.”
Family sources said Nabil’s father was in Dhaka at the time of the incident. He was expected to reach home around 9:00 pm, after which Nabil’s funeral prayer would be held and he would be buried at the family graveyard.
The tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over Patharghata, as a mother’s expression of unconditional love for her child on social media turned into a heartbreaking farewell just hours later.
