Egypt, Sep 15 (V7N) - A tragic collision between two passenger trains in Egypt's Nile Delta on Saturday has left at least three people dead, including two children, according to authorities. The crash occurred in the city of Zagazig, the capital of Sharqiya province, as confirmed by Egypt's railway authority.

The Health Ministry reported that the accident also injured at least 40 others.

Train accidents and derailments are a frequent occurrence in Egypt, where the aging railway infrastructure has long suffered from neglect and mismanagement. The government has launched various initiatives to improve the system in recent years. In 2018, President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi announced that around 250 billion Egyptian pounds (approximately $8.13 billion) would be required to properly modernize the country’s deteriorating rail network.

Footage from the crash site shows a mangled train car with onlookers gathering nearby. Rescuers were seen attempting to pull the injured passengers through the windows of one of the cars.

Just last month, another train in the Mediterranean province of Alexandria collided with a truck crossing the tracks, resulting in two fatalities.
