Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N) – Former Secretary of the Election Commission and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jahangir Alam, has been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB). He was taken into custody from the Gulshan area on Tuesday morning, confirmed Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Department.

Jahangir Alam, who previously served as Secretary of the Public Security Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs, was placed on compulsory retirement by the government on 14 August 2024. His tenure as Secretary of the Election Commission coincided with the controversial parliamentary elections held on 7 January this year.

Further details regarding the charges or reasons for his arrest have not yet been disclosed by the authorities.
