At the beginning of the Bengali spring season, Khulna, one of the divisional cities of Bangladesh, started everywhere Pitha Utsab, Basantbaran, making and entertaining various types of food items of date palm juice.

Jessore and Chuadanga in Khulna division are famous for date palm juice.  In these two districts of the division, juice pies, jaggery, patali are being prepared from house to house with date juice.

Gachi (those who cut palm trees and extract juice are called Gachi) Abdur Rab said he is cutting about two hundred trees this year.  Trees are cut every other day in a week.  Daily 20/25 Thila (Bhar) juice.

Rahman Gachi of Jessore's Khajura village said he has 30 tablets of juice daily.  The price of 5 liters of juice is 3 hundred rupees.

Akalima of pitha market in Khulna said that since it is spring and mild winter, pitha season is going on now.  And because of this the demand for juice has increased.  That's why the price is high.

Pitha Mela and Basant Utsab are now going on at about 10 places in Khulna.  These include Khulna Press Club, Ahsanullah College, Maheswar Pasha, Khulna University, SOS Shishu Palli and various open spaces in Khulna city.

But the most exceptional is pitha utsab and basant baran with orphans and poor children in Govt Shishu Sadan located on Khulna South Sental Road.

For a while, orphans and poor children lost their joy.

In the long-standing pitha festival of Bengal, Cheeta pitha, Pakan pitha, Jamai pitha, Raspitha, juice pies and various types of pitha fair are held in Khulna.
