Dhaka, Nov 14 (V7N) — In a significant development, the Zubayr faction of Tablighi Jamaat has rescinded its claim of exclusive control over the Kakrail Mosque and Bishwa Ijtema, opting instead to cooperate with the current government and adhere to the previous status quo. This announcement was detailed in an "Urgent Statement on Kakrail Mosque and Tablighi" issued by Ulama Mashayek Bangladesh late Wednesday night.

According to the statement, Maulana Shahriar Mahmud of Ulama Mashayek Bangladesh disclosed that a high-level meeting with government representatives, including the Home Affairs and Religious Advisors, was held on November 12. After extensive discussions, it was agreed that a joint resolution to the Tablighi Jamaat dispute would be pursued in April 2025. Until then, Zubayr supporters agreed to cooperate with the government by following established rules for activities at Kakrail Mosque.

Additionally, the statement clarified that Maulana Saad from Delhi will not visit Bangladesh, and the Bishwa Ijtema will proceed on January 31, 1, and 2, 2025, under the leadership of Shurai Nejam.

The recent agreement marks a shift from tensions that have built up over the last seven years. During this time, Zubayr supporters conducted activities at the Kakrail Mosque for four weeks, while Saad supporters were allotted two weeks. Disagreements over control led to demands from Zubayr supporters at a November 5 conference, where they called for exclusive oversight of both the Kakrail Mosque and the Tongi Ijtema grounds.

Earlier this week, at a press conference on November 12, Ulama Mashayek Bangladesh warned of city-wide protests should Saad supporters be allowed any concessions at Kakrail Mosque or Tongi Ijtema. Saad supporters responded on November 13, cautioning that Zubayr’s claims could lead to serious conflicts and calling for a resolution that respects government decisions.

Both groups now await April’s proposed resolution, with Maulana Shahriar Mahmud urging all parties to cooperate peacefully.
