Dhaka, Dec 27 (V7N) — The dismissal order of Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Azmi, son of former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Professor Ghulam Azam, has been annulled and replaced with compulsory retirement effective from June 24, 2009. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

According to the ISPR, Brigadier General Azmi has been granted "premature (compulsory) retirement" with all associated financial and other benefits from the aforementioned date. The earlier notification of dismissal issued by the Ministry of Defence on June 23, 2009, has been officially rescinded.

Brigadier General Azmi was dismissed from the Bangladesh Army shortly after the Awami League came to power in 2008. His removal was perceived by many as politically motivated due to his family ties to Jamaat-e-Islami.

In 2016, Azmi was reportedly abducted and kept in a secret detention centre known as Ainaghar. Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government during the student uprising of July-August this year, Azmi was released on August 6. He was reportedly dropped off in the Ghatail area of Tangail by masked men and later reunited with his family.

This decision to revise his dismissal has drawn significant attention, particularly in light of the political and military transitions that have occurred in recent months.
