Dhaka, Mar 11 (V7N) – The government has officially revoked the cancellation of the Independence Award 2003, which had been previously awarded to former President and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. This decision was announced today in a press release from the Cabinet Division.
In 2016, the then Awami League government had decided to withdraw the posthumous Independence Award conferred on Ziaur Rahman, which resulted in the removal of his award medal and certificate from the National Museum. The decision was made in the context of the Supreme Court's verdict that year.
However, the latest notification clarified that there was no instruction in the Supreme Court's verdict to cancel Ziaur Rahman’s Independence Award. In light of this, and recognizing his extraordinary contributions during the Liberation War, the government has now revoked the earlier decision to cancel his award.
This move has been hailed as a recognition of Ziaur Rahman’s pivotal role in the country's independence struggle.
