Dhaka, Mar 18 (V7N) – Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and freedom fighter Syed Sirajul Islam passed away on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. He was 75 years old.

His namaj-e-janaza was held at 10 AM at the SI Shiru Mia auditorium at Rajarbagh police lines. The funeral was attended by Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam, senior police officials, and family members.

Later today, he will be laid to rest at his family graveyard in Baliadanga village, Magura Sadar Upazila.

A Distinguished Career in Law Enforcement

Syed Sirajul Islam joined the Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1973. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rajshahi and Khulna ranges and also held the position of Police Commissioner of Rajshahi.

He is survived by his wife and three sons.
