Dhaka, Apr 06 (V7N) – Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, has urged China to increase investment in Bangladesh and establish industrial plants that would benefit the broader region, especially landlocked countries. He made the call during an exclusive interview with Chinese state broadcaster CGTN, which aired on Saturday (April 5).
In the four-minute interview, Dr. Yunus emphasized the importance of elevating Bangladesh–China relations to a new strategic level. He stated that enhanced collaboration in investment, healthcare, technology, and cultural exchange could accelerate Bangladesh’s transformation into a developing economy, particularly by harnessing the power of its youthful population, half of whom are under the age of 27.
Strong Pitch for Economic and Technological Cooperation
Dr. Yunus noted that Chinese investment would not only benefit Bangladesh but also promote economic development in neighboring landlocked countries. He highlighted the strategic potential of Bangladesh as a hub for regional growth.
On the topic of healthcare, Dr. Yunus praised the quality of Chinese medical services and technology, stating that the people of Bangladesh are eager to receive Chinese healthcare and medical support. He remarked, “Bangladesh has much to gain from Chinese health technologies,” pointing to potential collaboration in improving Bangladesh’s healthcare system.
The Role of Youth in National Transformation
Referring to the country’s demographic advantage, Dr. Yunus said:
“Half of our population is under 27. With proper training and technological support, this youth force can become a skilled manpower base, helping drive Bangladesh’s economic progress.”
Strengthening Cultural Ties
In a notable cultural proposal, Dr. Yunus suggested establishing a Chinese cultural practice center in Bangladesh to promote language learning and cultural exchange. He stressed that understanding each other’s culture and language would deepen the people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Commitment to Peace and Regional Stability
Addressing the broader geopolitical climate, the interim chief advisor reiterated his long-standing stance for peaceful resolution of global conflicts, saying:
“Peace is the only solution; war is not a solution. There is no need for war to establish peace.”
Diplomatic Engagements in China
Dr. Yunus’s remarks came following his participation in the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference held in Hainan, China from March 26 to 29. After the forum, he visited Beijing—his first state visit since assuming office as Chief Advisor of the Interim Government.
His visit marks a significant step in reshaping Bangladesh's foreign policy direction under the interim government, placing a renewed emphasis on regional cooperation, investment inflow, and youth-centric development through technology and innovation.
