Dhaka, June 22 (V7N) — Masudul Haque of United News of Bangladesh (UNB) has been elected President, and Mohammad Obaidullah Badol of Kaler Kantho has been elected General Secretary of the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) for the 2025–2026 term.
The election took place on Sunday at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital. Hasan Hafiz, Chief Election Commissioner and current President of the National Press Club, announced the results. The election commission also included Kamal Uddin Sabuj, Editor of Desh Rupantor and former Press Club President, and Syed Abdal Ahmad, Executive Editor of Amar Desh and former Press Club General Secretary.
Masudul Haque secured 77 votes to become President, defeating his closest rival, Fosih Uddin Mahtab (Protidiner Bangladesh), who received 70 votes. Notably, in the previous committee, Masudul served as General Secretary, while Mahtab held the post of President.
In the race for General Secretary, Obaidullah Badol won with 55 votes, ahead of Mehdi Azad Masum (49 votes) and Mohammad Akhtar Hossain (41 votes).
Out of 156 registered voters, 151 cast their ballots. Four ballots were declared invalid due to discrepancies.
Voting was held for all but four of the 17 executive posts. The following candidates were elected unopposed:
Jharna Roy – Joint Secretary
Goutam Chandra Ghosh (Bangla News) – Office Secretary
Faruk Alam (Alokito Bangladesh) – Publicity and Publication Secretary
Habibur Rahman (Panchayet Habib, Inqilab) – Training and Research Secretary
Other elected members include:
Vice President: Mainul Hossain Pinnu (Green TV)
Organizing Secretary: Mahmud Akash (Janakantha)
Finance Secretary: M.H. Robin
All eight candidates for Executive Member positions were also elected:
Md. Robiul Islam – 78 votes
Tofazzal Hossain – 74 votes
Asad Al Mahmud – 70 votes
Muhammad Abdul Matin (Matin Abdullah) – 69 votes
Aynal Hossain – 62 votes
Md. Rakib Hasan – 55 votes
Shafiqul Islam – 53 votes
Md. Rezaur Rahim – 42 votes
The BSRF represents journalists covering Bangladesh’s administrative headquarters and plays a vital role in ensuring access to official information and transparency in governance.
