Dhaka, Dec 05 (V7N) – The United Nations on Thursday held a briefing for all registered political parties in Bangladesh, outlining its technical support to the Bangladesh Election Commission for the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
The United Nations invited representatives from all registered political parties to its Dhaka office to provide an overview of its electoral assistance program and answer questions regarding its initiatives. The briefing aimed to ensure transparency and strengthen stakeholders’ understanding of UN support for Bangladesh’s electoral process.
Through the BALLOT Project, launched in May 2025 at the request of the Bangladesh Election Commission, the UN is assisting in multiple areas: enhancing the operational capacity of the Election Commission, training staff, supporting voter and civic education, providing essential electoral materials, and promoting inclusive participation while ensuring information integrity.
The project aligns with core United Nations principles, including respect for national sovereignty, promotion of human rights, and adherence to impartiality, neutrality, and independence in electoral processes.
Since its launch, the BALLOT Project has contributed to registering nearly 8 million new voters, adding to the existing 120 million, including 3.8 million men and over 4 million women, thereby enhancing voter inclusivity and representation.
UN agencies involved, including UNDP, UN Women, and UNESCO, continue to collaborate closely with the Bangladesh Election Commission to provide comprehensive technical support for the upcoming elections.
