Panchagarh, Dec 05 (V7N) – The Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP) is preparing to finalize its nominations for 300 constituencies within December, according to Sarjis Alam, the party’s chief organizer for the northern region. He made the remarks on Thursday after a meeting with representatives of local mosques and temples at the July Memorial in Panchagarh.

Sarjis said the party is keeping the possibility of an alliance with the BNP-Jamaat bloc open, noting that discussions are ongoing. He added that the NCP is willing to align with parties that support political reforms, uphold the aspirations of the July uprising, oppose perceived Indian dominance, and maintain communal harmony with respect for Muslim sentiments. According to him, negotiations are progressing and the party expects a “comprehensive and expanded alliance” to be announced soon.

Speaking on the delayed alliance announcement, Sarjis explained that the scope and structure of the proposed coalition required further development. He expressed confidence that the final version would emerge shortly and on a larger scale than initially planned.

Addressing concerns about the inclusion of three former leaders from the Jatiya Party in the newly announced Panchagarh district committee, Sarjis said the NCP prioritizes individuals with a strong public image, political experience, and social acceptance. He stated that the party has maintained a strict rule of excluding anyone who held an active position within the Awami League during the period of mass uprising. However, several individuals with past affiliations to the BNP, Jatiya Party, and JAGPA have joined the NCP, as they were not holding any active posts in 2024 and had withdrawn from their previous parties due to dissatisfaction with organizational culture and internal discipline.

Sarjis said these individuals expressed renewed interest in joining the NCP after observing the party’s stance against corruption, extortion, syndicates, and tender manipulation, as well as its push for a new political culture.

Highlighting his development work, Sarjis claimed that nearly Tk 4 crore had been allocated for around 200 mosques and temples in the past three months, an achievement he said surpassed what “major MPs and ministers failed to deliver in the last 20 years.” The meeting was attended by district and upazila NCP leaders along with National Youth Force representatives.
