Dhaka, Jan 13 (V7N)- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Myanmar’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, U Kyaw Soe Moe, over a firing incident along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The ambassador was called to the foreign ministry on Tuesday afternoon following reports of gunfire near Hoa Kyung Union, during which a 12-year-old Bangladeshi child, Huzaifa, was seriously injured.
During the meeting, Bangladesh expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that firing into Bangladeshi territory without provocation is a clear violation of international law and poses a serious threat to friendly bilateral relations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Bangladesh has asked Myanmar to take full responsibility for the incident and urged the authorities to adopt effective measures to prevent such cross-border firing in the future.
Bangladesh also emphasized that any internal conflict between Myanmar’s authorities and armed groups must not be allowed to endanger the lives, safety, and livelihoods of people living along the Bangladeshi border.
In response, Ambassador U Kyaw Soe Moe expressed regret on behalf of his government and conveyed sincere condolences to the injured child and his family. He assured Bangladesh that Myanmar would take necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
