Dhaka, Sept 8 (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today urged students to keep their homes, educational institutions and surroundings clean and free of stagnant water to help prevent dengue, stressing that regular cleanliness can significantly help prevent the spread of the disease.
“Everyone has to be aware of dengue prevention. We must ensure that no water remains stagnant in or around our homes. Regular cleanliness can significantly help prevent the spread of dengue,” he said when a group of students from Kalmakanda Girls High School in Netrakona met him at his office premises at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban this afternoon.
The Prime Minister also advised the students to engage in regular sports alongside their studies and to be caring towards animals and other living creatures. Urging the students to make cleanliness a habit beginning at home, he said, “Keep yourselves and your surroundings clean, and make your family members, friends and neighbours aware as well. Your small initiatives can help build a clean and healthy society.”
Highlighting the importance of sports and physical exercise for their physical and mental development, he said students should not focus only on textbooks but also make time for regular games and exercise. “You have to use your time wisely and work to become good human beings,” he said.
The Prime Minister also called for compassion towards animals, saying no one should be cruel to them. “Caring for helpless and voiceless animals around us reflects the values of a humane society,” he said.
During the interaction, the Prime Minister asked the students about their studies, including which classes they were in, how they were progressing and what they wanted to become in the future.
A total of 42 students from classes VI to X came to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today to observe a parliamentary session. Five teachers and two members of the school's governing committee accompanied them. At one point during their visit to observe the session, the students got an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister.
The students expressed joy and excitement at getting the chance to speak directly with Tarique Rahman and pledged to follow his advice in their own lives and spread the messages among their families, schoolmates and people in their community.
Bangladesh has been experiencing a significant dengue outbreak this year, with over 23,000 cases and 67 deaths recorded nationwide as of August 2026. The government has been intensifying its efforts to control the spread of dengue, including awareness campaigns, mosquito control measures, and strengthening healthcare facilities to manage patients. The Prime Minister's personal engagement with students reflects the government's focus on community-level participation in disease prevention efforts.
