Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N)- Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will not be renamed, while its much-anticipated third terminal will be partially opened on December 16, Aviation Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat has said.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (September 8) morning while inspecting the construction progress of the third terminal.
The Aviation Minister said an ultimatum has been given to the Japanese company involved in the project to complete the necessary work and facilitate the terminal's opening.
He said the terminal will be opened in phases, with the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) expected to take over responsibility for the facility by the middle of next year.
According to the minister, once the third terminal is fully operational, the airport will be capable of handling 200 to 250 aircraft. Authorities are also placing particular emphasis on improving baggage services, with a target of delivering passengers' luggage within 15 minutes.
M. Rashiduzzaman Millat further said Bangladesh's share of revenue from the terminal has been increased from 15 percent to 27 percent.
The third terminal is expected to significantly expand the airport's passenger-handling capacity and improve aviation services in Bangladesh.
