Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N)- The government wants former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina brought back to Bangladesh and arrested, Prime Minister's Information Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman has said.
He made the remarks at a regular briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday (September 8).
Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said it was uncomfortable for the government to see Sheikh Hasina speaking to the media from India again. He said the Indian government should take action in this regard, but has not done so.
He further said that even if Sheikh Hasina returns to Bangladesh now, she would have no opportunity to appeal against her sentence. Under the International Crimes Tribunal Act, an appeal must be filed with the Appellate Division within 30 days of the verdict, and that period has already expired.
New Boeing Aircraft to Be Purchased
Regarding the purchase of new Boeing aircraft from the United States, the Prime Minister's Information Advisor said Bangladesh plans to purchase several new aircraft in phases.
He said the process would take time because the aircraft cannot be procured immediately.
Third LNG Terminal Planned
Speaking about the ongoing LNG crisis, Zahed Ur Rahman said Bangladesh currently lacks sufficient regasification capacity, making it difficult to import large quantities of LNG even when international prices decline.
To address the country's gas and electricity crisis, he said a third floating LNG terminal is being established with Chinese investment.
According to the advisor, the new terminal is expected to increase Bangladesh's LNG import and regasification capacity and help address the country's energy shortage.
