Dhaka, Feb 19 (V7N) — The newly formed BNP-led government has begun steps to implement its much-publicized Family Card initiative, aimed at transferring a fixed monthly amount to women across Bangladesh.
An inter-ministerial meeting was held on Thursday at the Secretariat to discuss the rapid rollout and roadmap for the project.
Key Points
-
Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain said the program has been a BNP promise for over two and a half years.
-
Implementation will begin before Eid, targeting widespread coverage of women across the country.
-
The exact amount of money per card and the total number of recipients have not yet been finalized.
-
The minister emphasized that systemic change will take time, but within three to six months, it is hoped that half of the country’s women could be brought under the program.
-
The Family Card is positioned as an upgrade over existing social welfare projects, aiming to reach more women with a streamlined transfer system.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to improve financial inclusion and social welfare for women nationwide.
