The National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR) predicts that approximately 15 million individuals will leave Dhaka, including Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Gazipur, and Narayanganj city corporation areas, during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. About 60% of these holidaymakers, roughly nine million people, are expected to choose road travel, while the remainder will use waterways and railways. This projection, revealed in a press statement by NCPSRR, highlights the significant seasonal migration and its impact on transportation and safety. Despite acknowledging potential inaccuracies due to data limitations, NCPSRR's general secretary, Ashis Kumar Dey, explained that the report was compiled from various sources, including research data and civic groups. While expressing concerns about potential public suffering and accidents, the committee also recognized the government's efforts to facilitate smoother Eid travel. The report emphasizes challenges faced by travelers, such as the road transport sector's inadequate capacity to manage the influx of people and issues like poor road conditions and manual toll collection, contributing to traffic congestion. Despite these challenges, NCPSRR remains hopeful that government measures can mitigate some difficulties during this peak travel period, emphasizing the importance of effective implementation to enhance the Eid travel experience for millions.
