DHAKA, Mar 14, (V7N) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam announced Saturday that all fuel pumps along highways will remain open 24 hours a day for seven days before Eid and five days after Eid, ensuring uninterrupted travel during the holiday rush.
Speaking to reporters at the BRTC bus counter in Gulistan after inspecting traffic conditions, the minister said buses were departing on schedule and charging fares at approved rates, with no evidence of overcharging. He added that advance tickets remain valid despite earlier attempts by operators to cancel them citing fuel issues.
The minister, accompanied by State Minister Habibur Rashid and Secretary Dr. Mohammed Ziaul Haque, said the government has ensured adequate fuel supply for public transport and warned operators against raising fares or imposing extra charges during Eid.
He expressed optimism that travelers would enjoy a comfortable journey, noting that railway authorities were also working to ensure smooth passenger transport with available coaches and manpower.
Authorities have taken measures to keep roads operational ahead of the Eid rush, including repairs, removal of construction materials from active sites, and ensuring at least one lane remains open where work is ongoing.
Officials have identified 260 congestion‑prone locations nationwide, with law enforcement, BRTA, district administrations, and transport authorities instructed to act immediately to prevent gridlocks.
