Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N)- A total of 86 flights between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have been cancelled or suspended since Saturday night, October 10, following attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels in Saudi Arabia and temporary restrictions on airport operations.

The Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) disclosed the information in a statement on Wednesday, based on data received up to Wednesday morning.

The disruption has affected approximately 13,490 expatriate workers and other passengers, as flight operations at Saudi airports faced temporary restrictions and interruptions.

Of the 86 disrupted flights, 36 were direct services and 50 were transit flights operating through airports in the Middle East and neighbouring countries.

Among the affected direct services, 14 flights were operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, 10 by US-Bangla Airlines, seven by Riyadh Airways and five by Saudia Airlines.

The remaining 50 disrupted transit flights included 22 operated by IndiGo Airlines, 11 by Emirates, six by Qatar Airways, six by Flydubai, four by SalamAir and one by EgyptAir.

The cancellations and suspensions have disrupted travel plans for thousands of passengers, including Bangladeshi expatriates travelling to and from Saudi Arabia.
