A police constable was fatally shot, and two pedestrians were injured when another officer opened fire near the Palestinian embassy in Dhaka's Baridhara area late Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 11:45 pm, resulting in the death of Constable Monirul. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun confirmed the details early Sunday after visiting the scene.

Constable Kawsar Ahmed, who was also on duty at the time, has been detained in connection with the shooting. The area has been secured, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the incident, according to IGP Al-Mamun.

A total of 20 Chinese bullet casings were recovered from the scene. Monirul’s body was transported to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, and the injured are receiving treatment at United Hospital.

Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam indicated that Constable Kawsar was experiencing "mental stress." In response to the incident, security has been heightened in the diplomatic zone, with thorough searches of anyone entering Baridhara and the deployment of additional police teams, including SWAT and the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
