The Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) on Wednesday made announcements through megaphones in Benapole, Jessore, that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) may open fire at the border, warning civilians in the area against going near it.

"The BSF is claiming that Bangladeshi miscreants attacked a BSF member across the Maheshpur border (late on Monday). Announcements are being made to ensure safety in our border area," Bangla Tribune quoted Commander Mizanur Rahman of 49 BGB's Benapole ICP camp as saying.

He added that any Bangladeshi civilian is completely prohibited from going to the border area until further instructions.

Meanwhile, Benapole Municipality Councillor Kamal Hossain said: "I have been told by the BGB to instruct UP members and village police to advise all to refrain from approaching the border for purposes such as cattle tending or farming.”

BSF Head Constable Gokul Mondal was attacked with sharp weapons on Monday night by a group of miscreants who had crossed into Indian territory breaching an improvised fence on the border in Dhantala, Nadia district, West Bengal, The Times of India reports.

The attack took place inside Indian territory, the BSF said in a statement.

The border forces of the two countries later held a flag meeting where the issue was raised by the former, according to TOI.
