Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated on Sunday instead of following the democratic process, that the BNP always searches for another force to take power.

"They (BNP) search for another force that can place them in power whenever election time comes," she said.

At her official house in Ganabhaban, the prime minister made this statement during a visit by a British parliamentary cross-party team headed by Virendra Sharma.

Andrew Western, Paul Scully, and Neil Coyle make up the other members of the delegation.

Reporters were informed by PM's speechwriter, M Nazrul Islam, following the call.

Hasina reportedly told the group that the BNP withdraws from the election until they find no one to replace them in power, according to Nazrul.

The BNP is a party of terrorism. They have never won a legitimate election to take office. They always believe that someone will give them authority," the speaker stated.

She said that not participating in the election was their choice.

She said that a military man who created the BNP within a cantonment had tainted the nation's political system and electoral process.

She said that for a whole 29 years, anti-democratic forces dominated Bangladesh.

"The nation did not practice democracy at that time. Consequently, the nation underwent no progress," she informed the visitors.

According to the prime minister, London dictates to the BNP most of the time and they lack leadership.

As a result, they abstained from genuine electoral participation after 2008. In 2014, they abstained from the election.

Despite choosing to run in the 2018 election, the BNP nominated several candidates for a single seat.

"They finally withdrew their candidacies when they realized they wouldn't be able to win the election," she said.

She said that in 2008, a free and fair election was held under a caretaker administration supported by the military.

"About that election, there is no question. The 20-party alliance led by the BNP gained 30 seats in that election, while the AL won 233. It demonstrates that the BNP has no support among the general public," the PM stated.

Even though the BNP abstained from the January 7 election this year, she noted that 41.8 percent of voters cast ballots.

According to her, "people rejected BNP's appeal to reject vote."
