Dhaka, July 24 (V7N) - Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman affirmed on Tuesday that troops will maintain street patrols until normalcy is restored nationwide.

According to President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin, General Waker-Uz-Zaman made these remarks during a meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban on Tuesday noon.

The army chief disclosed that 27,000 army personnel have been deployed across 57 districts, supporting local administrations to uphold law and order and safeguard public property.

Highlighting the pivotal role of the armed forces, General Waker-Uz-Zaman emphasized their commitment to the spirit of the Liberation War and their duty to protect the country's independence and sovereignty during crises.

He expressed gratitude to the government for prompt decision-making in deploying the army, citing enhanced public trust due to their crucial role in crisis management.

President Shahabuddin condemned attacks on public property by anti-liberation elements aimed at disrupting national development. He expressed optimism that law and order would soon be restored, facilitating the country's progress.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary to the President Wahidul Islam Khan and Military Secretary Major General Mohammad Adil Choudhury.
