Dhaka, August 3 — A three-member judicial inquiry commission has been appointed to investigate the violence and deaths associated with the recent quota movement in Bangladesh, particularly focusing on incidents in Rangpur. The commission, led by Justice Khondkar Diliruzzaman of the High Court Division, includes Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury.

The commission's mandate, as outlined in a government notification, includes a thorough investigation into the events that transpired between July 16 and 21. The inquiry will cover incidents of death, violence, vandalism, arson, looting, and other terrorist activities linked to the quota reform movement. The commission aims to identify those responsible for these actions, potentially with the assistance of an experienced international investigation agency.

Justice Diliruzzaman stated, "We have commenced the investigation and will conduct a detailed inquiry into all the killings and destructions within our purview." The commission will visit Rangpur from August 4 to August 8, staying at the circuit house during this period. They plan to visit the scenes of the incidents and collect testimonies from witnesses.

The formation of this commission follows widespread unrest and violent clashes during the quota reform movement, which led to significant turmoil in various parts of the country. The inquiry aims to provide a comprehensive report, which the commission will submit to the government within the next 45 working days.
