Dhaka, August 22 — Post, Telecommunication, and Information Technology Adviser Nahid Islam reported that the network has been disrupted in some flood-affected upazilas due to damage to optical fiber cables. This information was shared in a message from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday.

Adviser Nahid Islam stated that around 13 percent of the flood-affected areas are currently experiencing site outages. The primary cause of this disruption is damage to optical fibers, coupled with power outages in certain regions. To maintain connectivity, generators are being used in these affected areas.

The message further noted that 10 Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) are on standby to restore the network in case of a total disconnection. Additionally, instructions have been issued to provide free mobile network access in the affected areas to ensure continued communication for those impacted by the floods.

The government is taking proactive measures to address the network issues and is committed to restoring full connectivity as quickly as possible.
