Dhaka, August 22— The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has announced the allocation of cash, rice, and dry food to assist people in flood-affected areas across Bangladesh. Rescue operations have already commenced, with the Army and Navy actively involved in providing aid in Feni district, among other regions.

Current Flood Situation:

- Affected Districts: 6 (Comilla, Feni, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar)

- Flooded Upazilas: 43

- Waterlogged Families: 1,89,663

- Affected Population: 17,96,248

- Fatalities: 1 person drowned in Fulgazi upazila, Feni district

- Shelters Opened: 1,359, providing refuge to 17,882 people and 3,486 livestock

- Medical Teams: 309 deployed

 

Relief Distribution Details:

Feni District:

  - Affected Population: Approximately 300,000

  - Shelters: 78, with 20,000 people taking refuge

  - Medical Teams: 76

  - Relief Allocation: 42,00,000 taka cash, 1,400 MT of rice, and 3,000 packets of dry food

Comilla District:

  - Affected Population: 47,770

  - Shelters: 587, with 392 people currently sheltered

  - Relief Allocation: 42,00,000 taka cash, 1,400 MT of rice

Noakhali District:

  - Affected Population: 12,02,000

  - Shelters: 345, with 7,753 people and 1,795 livestock sheltered

  - Medical Teams: 88

  - Relief Allocation: 25,00,000 taka cash, 1,600 MT of rice

Chittagong District:

  -  Affected Population: 95,900

  - Shelters: 232, though none have taken refuge yet

  - Medical Teams: 127

  - Relief Allocation: 15,00,000 taka cash, 1,600 MT of rice

Moulvibazar District:

  - Affected Population: 61,660

  - Relief Allocation: 10,00,000 taka cash, 1,850 MT of rice, 1,000 packets of dry food

Khagrachari District:

  -  Affected Population: 87,718

  - Shelters: 117, with 7,277 people and 1,691 livestock sheltered

  - Medical Teams: 18

  - Relief Allocation: 800 MT of rice

 

Ongoing Operations and Forecast:

The Ministry’s round-the-clock control room has been activated for information and assistance. The Army and Navy have deployed personnel, vehicles, and water treatment plants in the hardest-hit areas, particularly in Feni. 

Meteorological forecasts predict moderate to heavy rainfall in the northeastern and eastern parts of the country over the next 48 hours, likely increasing water levels in major rivers.

The government continues to coordinate with local authorities, medical teams, and volunteer organizations to ensure timely relief and rescue operations.
