Dhaka, August 25 — Adviser Farida Akhtar has reported that the ongoing severe floods in Bangladesh have caused extensive damage to the fisheries and livestock sectors, resulting in losses exceeding Tk 2,000 crore. She also warned against any attempts to increase the prices of milk and eggs during this temporary crisis, stating that strict action would be taken against those who do so.

During a briefing at the Secretariat on Sunday, Farida Akhtar discussed the flood damage and outlined the necessary steps to be taken. She mentioned that the livestock sector, including eggs and milk, has suffered losses amounting to Tk 411 crore across 12 districts. The fisheries sector has faced even greater losses, totaling Tk 1,590 crore.

To support the affected farmers and entrepreneurs in these sectors, the adviser announced that loans would be made available on easy terms. She also urged NGOs to suspend loan installment payments temporarily for those impacted by the floods. Additionally, she emphasized that the ministry is closely monitoring the situation to prevent any artificial inflation of milk and egg prices.
