Dhaka, Aug 29 (V7N): The government has decided to terminate the black money whitening scheme and has taken steps to combat money laundering, according to Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan.

The decision was reached during an Adviser Council meeting on Thursday, led by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.

Following the meeting, Adviser Rizwana Hasan briefed the media on the significant decisions made.

"An order is being put into effect to reverse the previous policy. Where black money could once be legalized, that option will now be removed," Rizwana stated.

She added that the government concluded that the financial benefits of the black money whitening scheme were outweighed by its ethical and societal costs. "A definitive decision has been made to put an end to this practice," she highlighted.

Rizwana also confirmed that actions to curb money laundering are already underway.

The previous administration had allowed the whitening of black money multiple times as a means to increase revenue.
