Dhaka, Sept 01 (V7N): Doctors across Bangladesh have declared a complete shutdown of all public and private hospitals, starting today, in response to a recent assault on doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The shutdown will continue until their four-point demands are met, including the arrest of those responsible for the attack.

When asked who would be accountable if patients suffer due to the lack of treatment during the shutdown, the protesting doctors stated that the administration would bear responsibility.

"The sooner our demands are met, the sooner we will resume treatment," the doctors emphasized.

The doctors' four-point demands are:

  1. All individuals involved in the attack at DMCH must be identified, arrested within the next 24 hours, and prosecuted under the Speedy Trial Act.
  2. Immediate deployment of armed "health police" at all healthcare institutions to ensure a safe working environment.
  3. Restrict hospital entry to only patients' visitors holding valid visitor cards, with security enforced by armed "health police."
  4. Address any irregularities or negligence in patient care through formal complaints to the relevant authorities, with no tolerance for individuals taking the law into their own hands.

The strike at DMCH earlier today marked the beginning of this broader nationwide protest.
