The Bangladesh business community has been pressing the government to step up its efforts to explore domestic supplies of gas, coal, and oil to guarantee a steady supply of energy for industry.

They made this request during a meeting of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (FBCCI) standing committee on "Power, Energy, and Utilities," which took place on Sunday at the Chamber building in Motijheel.

Mahbubul Alam, the president of FBCCI, was the prominent guest during the gathering.

He stated that merchants need a steady supply of energy. However, he continued, the manufacturers are not receiving an uninterrupted supply of electricity because of a number of factors, including the global crisis.

According to him, the government and the FBCCI are in communication on how to guarantee a continuous electricity supply during the upcoming summer.

He placed a strong focus on international commerce as a temporary fix to guarantee energy supplies.

Speaking at the ceremony were FBCCI Vice President Md. Munir Hossain, FBCCI Director Haji Hafeez Harun, FBCCI Secretary General Muhammad Alamgir, former Max Group Chairman and Director Golam Mohammad Alamgir, and Director of the Energy Standing Committee Mohammad Riad Ali.

The Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive (CEO) of Energypack Power Generation PLC, Humayun Rashid, who chairs the committee, stated, "We have not yet reached the desired goal of infrastructure development for energy."
