Purbachal, Jan 23 (V7N) — A large crowd of buyers and visitors thronged the Dhaka International Trade Fair from Friday morning, taking advantage of the weekend holiday and pleasant weather. Traders expressed optimism over increased sales, with many stalls offering special discount deals.
The lively atmosphere was visible across the fairgrounds from the early hours of Friday (January 23).
This year, Kashmiri shawls, garments, carpets and decorative lamps have emerged as major attractions for visitors. Various colorful home décor items are also drawing buyers, while aluminum product stalls are witnessing comparatively higher footfall from women shoppers.
Electric bike stalls are also seeing noticeable interest. Traders said sales are expected to rise further as the day progresses.
Sellers noted that business remained sluggish last week due to cold weather and dense fog, which reduced both visitor turnout and sales. However, clear skies and bright weather on Friday, combined with the public holiday, significantly boosted attendance, with visitors arriving from different parts of the country.
To facilitate visitors, e-ticketing and cashless payment counters have been set up, alongside concert arrangements on the occasion of the holiday. Around 300 volunteers, along with law enforcement agencies, are working to ensure security and smooth management of the fair.
The 30th Dhaka International Trade Fair 2026 was inaugurated on January 3 at Purbachal in Rupganj, Narayanganj. The month-long fair remains open daily from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, while on weekends it stays open until 10:00 pm.
